ADR is a United Nations treaty that governs the international transport of hazardous materials by road.

Dangerous goods regulations cover a wide variety of substances, this includes any goods that are flammable, corrosive, toxic, combustible, explosive or radioactive. Typical goods covered by ADR includes: paints, solvents, pesticides, cleaning products, chemicals, oils and petroleum-based products.

ADR stands for, “”Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises dangereuses par route” (European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road).

An ADR licence is a legal requirement for transporting hazardous goods. ADR drivers have been trained and passed an ADR training test, which means they can handle hazardous goods safely and understand all the necessary safety and emergency procedures. ADR HGV lorries are required to carry safety equipment and must be marked accordingly.
