What is BRC?
BRC Global Standards are the food safety and quality standards set by the British Retail Consortium. The BRC accreditation has one central purpose – to protect the consumer. If food is spoilt or contaminated it is dangerous, with the potential to cause injury and illness.
Food can be spoilt at any point between the raw ingredient stage to the kitchen shelf, which is why BRC accreditation is required for all sectors involved in the food supply chain from ingredients suppliers to manufacturers, to caterers, retailers, and shipping services.
