The Hyde Point warehouse ready was for a new chapter
Our Hyde Point warehouse (soon to be known as Phoenix – more of which later), was typical of Manchester’s industrial heritage of red-brick factories and workshops. It had seen decades of service, and it showed! Barred windows, a fragile roof, narrow entrance door and asbestos.
But we knew it had lots of potential. The location was great, with excellent motorway access, and plenty of square-meters.
It was important for us to do things well and do them once. We took a long hard look at what our customers needed and what improvements were necessary to bring it up to standard. The list turned out to be a long one!
In fact it was so long that we decided to split it into two phases. The warehouse was really four warehouses in one with dividing walls splitting each, this would have made sense when it was first built, probably as a factory or food manufacturer. But to make a successful fulfilment centre every inch mattered, and optimising space was priority.
